workshops 2015
We currently have openings for individualized math support for students in grades 4-12, as well as openings for summer. Please call Becky directly for more information. Becky has limited openings for individualized literacy support during the summer. Please call as soon as possible if your child is struggling in reading. Her openings will fill quickly. All individualized instruction will take place in our new Playa Vista office space, beginning on March 2.
We have added to our summer workshop selections this year! Each workshop session is 90 minutes daily, over the course of a two-week period, for a total of 10 classes. Workshops are limited to 8 students. All group workshops will be held in the cozy, little cottage in Westchester. Grade levels refer to the grade that your child will be entering in the fall.
Six Traits of Writing (Grades 5-6) This workshop will cover two of the six traits (word choice and writing conventions) through dynamic, interactive lessons. Your child will enjoy the creative aspects of writing while fine tuning the mechanics. Offered July 6-17, M-F, 10-11:30 AM.
Problem Solving in Math (Grades 5-6) Does your child do well with computation, but have difficulty when it comes to the real-life application of math, sometimes referred to as "word problems?" This class is ideal for that student! We will also cover higher level thinking skills and logical reasoning through dynamic, engaging activities Offered July 6-17, M-F, 12n-1:30 PM.
Algebra Prep (Grades 7-9) If your child plans to take Algebra I in the fall, give them a head start with this concentrated review course that promises to sharpen those important pre-requisite skills. Offered July 20-31, M-F, 10-11:30 AM
The Pro/Con Essay (Grades 7-9) In our most popular middle school writing workshop, students are asked to write about the pros and cons of a fantasy job of their choice. An otherwise boring essay becomes magical as kids share their journey into the fantasy world of elves, mermaids, magic carpets and more...the possibilities are endless! Please see our writing samples page to see how these lessons come to life on the page. Offered July 20-31, M-F, 12n-1:30 PM.
Algebra I Review (Grades 8-10) If your child plans to take Algebra II in the fall, then this class is just what s/he needs. Students will review key skills that will prepare them for a successful year in Algebra II. Offered Aug. 3-14, M-F, 10-11:30 AM.
Math Review (Grades 6-7) Utilizing an individualized, online curriculum, students will work at their own pace to review concepts from the previous school year, or get a head start on the coming year. Their instructor will teach mini-lessons as well as assist individual students as they work their way through reviewing concepts that may have been challenging for them. Offered Aug. 3-14, M-F, 12-1:30.
